In this valley watered by the Weiss, a tributary of the Fecht, in the year 680, a German named Sigwald or Sigold would have established his home which was thus at the origin of the creation of the village bearing his name, Sigolsheim or villa of Sigold. The origin of the name of the village can be summed up as follows: the Sigolt surname and the Heim Germanic, home.

Many abbeys attracted by the reputation of his wines, managed to obtain donations from the Carolingian era. This explains why as early as the 9th century Sigolsheim already had three chapels, one of which, founded by Saint Richarde, wife of Emperor Charles the Fat, later became the parish church of the village.

The village is dominated by the site of a National Necropolis, a high place of memory that testifies to the violent clashes during the liberation of the Poche de Colmar during the winter of 1944-1945 (site where were also shot the final scenes of the film by Rachid BOUCHAREB "Indigenous").

Producing famous wines, the coast is a mecca Sigolsheim characteristic of the Battle of the "Colmar Pocket". On the flank of the latter, the Monastery of Marie-Médiatrice calls for meditation and the peace of the soul.
