Heritage days - Church Saint-Martin

As part of Heritage Days, the Parish Council and the Friends of the Chapels invite you to a tour of Saint Martin’s Church.

Following the tours of the chapels (Saint Wendelin on 19 September and Saint Eloi on 20 September) the programme concludes with a guided tour of the parish church of Saint Martin in Ammerschwihr, renowned for its rich history, furnishings and statuary – in particular the statue of Saint Anne (16th century), which has recently been restored thanks to the efforts and funding of the association of chapels bearing her name. It has regained its underlying gilding, which was revealed after the layers of repainting were removed, thanks to the painstaking work of the restorer and gilder Pascal Meyer, a ‘Meilleur Ouvrier de France’ (MOF), from Schiltigheim.

On this occasion, a crucifix from the retirement home’s chapel will also be on display; it is thought to date from 1500 and to have been produced in a Basel workshop. Made of wood, it is listed as a historic monument, described as “presenting sufficient interest from a historical and artistic perspective to warrant its preservation”.
