Ideas for a refreshing hike on Lac Blanc
It’s summer and the temperatures are rising! You’re right to want to get away from the heat!
But beware: if you stay on the Vosges ridges, where there’s no vegetation, the temperature can quickly become stifling. I promise you, you’ll come across the ‘wow’ effect even in the shade of the Vosges fir trees.
Check out our special ‘cool’ top 3 for your next hike on Lac Blanc.
So, which one are you going to try?
1- Hiking trail - the short tour of Lac Blanc
To all those who dream of the Caribbean :
make this your next eco-friendly adventure!
Over 4 km, this trail ticks all the boxes for a postcard-worthy setting. Start by skirting the lake in the shade of the fir trees, then make your way to the balconies, a veritable little corner of paradise. The highlight: views over the turquoise waters of the lake.
2 - Hiking trail - Surcenord via Gazon l'Hôte
This hike takes in all the diversity of the mountain landscape. The little path leading to ‘Gazon l’Hôte’ is a must in summer. When the heather is in flower, the ground is transformed into a magnificent purple carpet, a sight not to be missed.
You can then enjoy a panoramic view over the Alsace plain.
Finally, you enter the deep forest of the Tête des Faux massif, home to some real historical treasures, including the Carrefour Duchesne National Necropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
3 - Hiking trail - La Tête des Faux
Explore the Massif de la Tête des Faux in the shade of the tall fir trees. The wide forest paths will take you back in time. At the junction of the paths is the Carrefour Duchesne National Necropolis, a cemetery nestling in the heart of the forest, a poignant reminder of the Great War.
Continue your ascent to the summit, at an altitude of 1,208 metres. The climb may make you hot, but the effort is well worth it.
Up there, the bare summit, carpeted with brightly coloured blueberries, still reveals the marks of the past: remains of blockhouses, German forts, barbed wire and shell holes. **This is where an emotional evening took place on 24 December 1914…**
Reminder: When hiking at Lac Blanc, bring a hat or cap, sunglasses, sun cream and plenty of water! Remain vigilant on the paths and respect nature: swimming is forbidden in the Lac Blanc (and Lac Noir).
